Our vision: A society where no one is hungry or lonely

Our mission: To unite and nourish communities using surplus food

Our aims:

  • strengthen communities, by bringing people together around a healthy meal

  • encourage friendships, by creating spaces for people from all backgrounds and walks of life to have fun together

  • improve nutrition and reduce hunger, by cooking healthy meals for those in need

  • change attitudes to food to reduce food waste, by using surplus food and spreading our passion for food and the environment

Where we’ve come from: our first cook in May 2009 will always be remembered as a pivotal moment in FoodCycle’s history. After six months of getting the key ingredients of food, volunteers and a kitchen together for the first ever cooking session, we all looked into a pot of brown slop. It wasn’t the gourmet meal we wanted, but we’d come too far to quit.

Where we’re going: we’ve learned a huge amount since that first cooking session, but some things have always stayed the same: what we do, how we do it and the people we exist to serve. When a group of committed volunteers and an eclectic mix of ingredients come together to create a meal for the community, delicious meals are created out of each FoodCycle cooking session. Conversations begin and friendships are made.

If you’ve been with us since the beginning, have been following us for a while or just joined in now – welcome!
